Our Queen Anne Victorian Farmhouse Rennovation Has Started! Here Is Our Progress.

As many of you know who follow our blog from around the world, we have been building and updating a farm here in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee.  We have spent the last two years working on the barns, outbuildings, pastures, forests, gardens, and built tons of landscaping retaining walls and recently completed all of that along with the final landscaping.  Last fall we also built an off the grid writers cabin in the woods that we blog about periodically.

As fall begins here at the farm we begin yet another wonderful project – our set of additions that will ultimately add about 1000 square feet to the house in all.

Part Of Our Addition That Began This Week – Great Room Being Added To Look Out At The Smokies

We are adding a 15×12 room off the kitchen to open up the kitchen area to support a larger farm table and also to make an entrance into the kitchen that is more of a charming mudroom.  This room will have vaulted ceilings and beams which should be gorgeous.

Kitchen Addition To Make More Room For Breakfast Nook Dining And A Mud Room

We are also doing a second addition simultaneously off the back of the house which overlooks the Smoky Mountains.  This huge 24 by 24 foot room will be a great room/family room with vaulted ceilings and big beams showing and a stone woodburning fireplace.  This room will have huge windows that overlook the mountains with french doors that open out onto a large deck.

In a follow on addition shortly there after we will be converting the garage area behind the geat room into an informal dining room to adjoin the great room for casual dining along with a large pantry and mudroom/utility room.  That will be in a follow on effort after this phase is completed.  Here are the photos to show you the progress so far!
