When To Pick Vegetables And Fruits In Tennessee

At HiBar Ranch we are busting at the seams with produce right now.  Our gardens are loaded with vegetables and herbs, mainly tomatoes, cucumbers, summer squash, cotton, okra, beans, peppers, corn, sweet potatoes, chard, greens, kale, collards and herbs.  It is truly crazy.  I have so much food I am having to give a bunch to the chickens, turkeys and pheasants.  Usually I can but things have been insane with our landscaping this last month so I havent unpacked my canning jars.  In the orchards the grapes, pears and apples are all going gangbusters nearly ready to can.  I will be ready for this set of activities in August.  The pumpkins are getting big along with the watermelon and cantelope.  The walnuts seem to be everywhere.  I have more walnut trees that I realized and boy are they green and big on the trees ready to fall.

With all of this bounty flooding my kitchen I thought it best to show you all the produce you can harvest in Tennessee and for how long.  Having moved from Upstate NY, our growing season up there stops months earlier and starts months later.  It truly is amazing how long you can grow food in Tennessee.  And, along with a cold frame which we now have in our garden, you can truly grow food yearBelow
