It is always so rewarding the first time you collect vegetables out of your garden each spring and summer. Well, today I picked produce for the first time and couldn’t be more happy. I have harvested my mints/herbs earlier in the season but not my vegetables.
We have had a great deal of rain May and June in East Tennessee with temperatures in the mid 70s to mid 80s. It has been ideal growing conditions.
I harvested ten things out of the vegetable garden and fruit orchard today.
- Red Swiss Chard
- Yellow Summer Squash
- Green Pepper
- Cayenne Peppers
- Banana Peppers
- Pickling Cucumbers
- Red Raspberries
There are big tomatoes on the vines but they are still green. The okra is growing taller by the hour and I am experimenting with growing cotton this year. That should be fun. My pumpkin vines have gone from two feet long to 20 feet long in a matter of just one week. Crazy growth we are seeing here in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennesee. The fruit orchard is doing great with apples and pears getting big. The grapes are plump and still green. All the berries are ripening as we speak.
Here is another picture of all my organic produce in the kitchen.
We hope you have a wonderful harvest season too. And we encourage you to enjoy the journey.
God Bless! L. Davis
